Operated by the same management behind The Soup Spoon, The Handburger used to have standalone outlets, but now they have all closed and it has been re-opened as a single eatery called The Soup Spoon Union. In the past, the burgers were accompanied by side orders such as Chunky Fries, but since the merger they've been demoted to optional upgrades.
THB Original ($11.80) is the chef's recommendation. Consisting of sweet onion jam and melted cheese atop a thick, succulent beef patty the width of my palm, the burger is lip-smackingly good. The meat has an intense flavor and was tender enough that the knife slid through it easily.
The Stuffed Portobello ($14.80) contains - what else? - portobello mushroom stuffed with ingredients like parmesan cheese and walnuts, which is topped with a lovely spread of their tomato herb sauce and sandwiched between two fat baked buns. Each bite is a savory treat for the taste buds.
I upgraded my meal to include the Red Velvet Cake and Iced Lemon Tea ($3.90 to upgrade). Here the dessert scores as well; the cake was fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness, and the cream wasn't too thick or sticky. It even had luscious mango icing on top!
