For a place with ribs barbecued the good old fashioned way - basted with special sauces and turned over a slow charcoal fire until thoroughly smoked - look no further than Morganfield's. Also known as the Home of Sticky Bones, you'll be spoilt for choice.
The portions are enormous, with a half slab containing approximately 12 bones. Pretty good for sharing with friends.
Dig into the Honey Rum Sticky Bones ($28.90 for half slab, $43.90 for full), tantalizing honeyed ribs that tease the taste buds. True to its name, the meat - which easily slides off the bones - is aromatic and scrumptious. The grilled pineapple ring atop has a nectarous flavour that is beautifully contrasted against the slightly sour coleslaw.
If you prefer something a little less sweet and more savoury, then the Garlic BBQ Spare Ribs is highly recommended. Drenched in thick garlic sauce peppered with roasted garlic bits, the ribs are equally well marinated and tender.
Besides ribs, Morganfield's also boosts other marvelous offerings. Parmesan cheese and Merlot garlic butter softly stirred into Sautéed Mushrooms ($9.90) make this an alluring appetizer. The mushrooms are gratifyingly plump and fresh, their natural sweetness enriched by the minimal seasoning.
All these fed two of us and we were almost bursting by the end of the meal, so I didn't order any dessert. I'll return one day to do so!
